Information Security Guide

Personal Computer
  • Update your OS with recommend security patches
  • Update applications with recommend security patches
  • Password protect with a complex password including alpha, numeric and special characters
  • Install and frequently update antivirus software as well as run scans and check for renewal of software annually
  • Lock computer when not in use
  • Do not store username or passwords in unencrypted\non-secure location
  • Do not click or open links\attachments you are not expecting to receive, even if they are from a trusted source
  • Backup your computer frequently via encrypted removable or online storage solutions
  • Frequently change your passwords
  • Delete all temporary internet files and cookies
Wireless Network (WiFi)
  • Encrypt your home network preferably with WPA2 when possible using alpha, numeric and special characters
  • When utilizing free WiFi when you travel do not connect to Home Banking or other sensitive sites if the WiFi is not a secure connection.
Home/Mobile Banking
  • Keep you device’s software and operating system up to date
  • Password protect your devices
  • Lock devices using a password or pattern lock to restrict access
  • Encrypt your data
  • Only download applications from trusted sources (cutting down on malware attacks)
  • Install and frequently update antivirus software
  • Do not store username or passwords in unencrypted\non-secure location
  • Do not respond to text or emails requesting sensitive data
  • If lost or stolen, notify your carrier as soon as possible and wipe your phone remotely (Your device manufacturer might provide this option for you to perform yourself via their website.)
  • Do not click or open links\attachments you are not expecting to receive, even if they are from a trusted source
  • Backup your phone in case it is lost or stolen
  • When using multi-factor authentication (text/email codes), be sure to not store usernames and passwords on the same device that will receive the text/email codes
  • Be sure to update your login credentials (security questions/answers and passwords) frequently to prevent others from guessing what you use to login
  • Create unique passwords that are different from other passwords you might use. It’s a good idea to use a combination of upper/lower letters and numbers to create a stronger password
